The biggest mistake that many unemployed Kenyans possessing a Kra Pin make is to think that they are not supposed to file Kra returns. Whether employed or not, Kra requires you to file tax returns yearly. Failure to do so, you risk being fined Kshs 20,000. Filing tax returns helps you ensure that you have paid the tax you are supposed to pay according to your earnings and get refunded in case you have overpaid.

Below are some of the reasons why the government collects taxes

1.    To pay public servants. There are many employees employed by the government and the tax collected is used to pay their salaries.

2.    To conduct developments. The funds collected are used to fund government projects such as construction of roads and bridges.

3.    To pay state debts. Taxes collected are used to pay any monies that the government may owe to other states or organizations.
